Interview with: Discovia Instrumental Collective Jungle by night

Time to read: 3 minutes

Today we introduce you to Jungle by night, a nine-headed instrumental collective that has been heating up dancefloors with their cross-cutting music at over 600 festivals and stages in 34 countries.

Describe what you do in your own words? What is unique about the way you do it that makes you stand out?

We want to translate sounds we hear in clubs to a band setting, providing an electronic experience and doing everything live, done by real people on real instruments.

What inspired you to go and do it? How did it all start?

We got together as friends and family and started jamming out in a basement. We started out with a kind of Afro-inspired tunes but evolved into a more electronic Kraftwerk-inspired sound.

Describe a moment of huge inspiring breakthrough in your personal-professional evolution.

Bringing a Juno-6 and an MS-20 into the studio!

What is your current Mount Everest? What are you in the process of creating in the world? Your ultimate vision and dream?

In our music, we aim to blur the lines between the electronic and the human element. Like when you listen to a DJ set, having the best time of your life. Imagine dancing in a club, there are amazing lights everywhere and the music is flowing and molding itself to the energy on the dancefloor, but you are actually watching a band… Kind of like jazz bands in the 50s but a more modern version, still only humans playing the music!!

What do iDiscover and its community mean to you?

This is our first time interacting with iDiscover and its community and we want to connect with our audience on a deep level using a creative output. We anticipate Discovia to be an environment of like-minded people connecting to enhance their communal creative flows. This is the best way to stay close to your emotions and get the most out of your workflow.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly ritual or performance hack that really works for you?

We try to connect 3 or 4 days every week to really stay on top of what we create. It mostly consists of this song we sing before a show:

Andiamo! Kom op laten we gaan jo

Laten we nu vertrekken, want het is echt tijd

En ik heb geen zin om te wachten

Nee ik moet echt gaan

Andiamo op z’n engels,

Come on let’s play a show JO!
